The Halle Forest near Bruxelles, has around 552 ha of magic and beauty: is known for its bluebell carpet, which covers the forest floor for a few weeks each spring (mid April - beginning of May) by wild hyacinths, and it's strictly forbidden to pick up flowers to preserve the landscape. In the morning, a usually fog smashes the amazing landscape, and stories of faeries and trolls are told in the region.

The forest was really destroyed after the first world war, and between 1980 and 1950 there has been a huge effort to replant fallen trees like beech and oaks.

 

How to visit:

Since it's a public forest, there's no entrance fee. You can go here by public transportation - a train from Bruxels to Halle (5.70€ one way), and then, in the Halle train station you can get a bus until the entry of the forest (or rent a bike, it's only 5 km!!). I suggest you to visit in the early morning, to have that beautiful light and many few tourists.part of the forest is called the Reebokwandeling (just follow the yellow walking path).
