Mangyongdae Funfair - North Korea
The Mangyongdae Fun Fair is an amusement park located 12 kilometers from Pyongyang (North Korea's capital). It has an area of 70 hectares including a funfair and wading pool, and its operating season is year-round.
Built in the 1980s, the Mangyongdae Fun Fair was renovated in 2012 after North Korean leader Kim Jong UN visited it and slammed it for its dismal atmosphere and run-down condition.
But... the amazing part of this is not the fact that it's the country's Disneyland, maybe that is the most depressing funfair in the world. It has been reported that there is a lack of genuine customers and exists mainly for selected tourists since locals are too poor to leap onto a roller coaster. And to make up for the lack of visitors in front of foreign journalists, locals is allegedly put into a bus and shipped in to populate the park to create a false sense of enjoyment. I don't know if that's true, but... I really want to go here to find out!
How to visit:
It’s not known how much tickets cost to enter the amusement park and in google maps it says it's 18 min by car from the city center. Maybe go by taxi? Well since it's North Korea we will never find out.
Happy journeys in North Korea!
