Quarry Bay Monster Building - Hong Kong
Hong Kong has one of the most populated streets in the world, and with the Quarry Bay Monster Building there's no doubt of it. This "Monster building" is formed by five connecting structures: Oceanic
Mansion, Fook Cheong Building, Montane Mansion, Yick Cheong Building,
and Yick Fat Building, and they were built during a population boom in the
1960s to offer government-subsidized housing for low-income residents.
Both Monster Building courtyards look the same, the only
difference is maybe its color. The front buildings from the eastern
courtyard are painted blue while the ones from the western courtyard are
painted red. To take a picture, the best is to go to the less crowded courtyard - the western one, otherwise, you'll need to wait for like half an hour.
How to visit:
To visit the Monster Building, take exit A at Quarry Bay MTR Station and
walk along King’s Road toward Tai Koo. After passing the junction to
Mount Parker, you get to the entrance to Montane Mansion and Oceanic
Mansion. It only takes two-three minutes to get there.
With the growth of popularity, there has been a ban on public access to the inner courtyard, so I suggest that, if you visit it, just remind yourself that this is a private residential area and you're in their yard.
Happy journeys in Hong Kong!
