Oh New Zealand... A place of lakes, mountains and mother nature. And Lake Tekapo is one of the most famous lakes here. Located in the Christchurch — Mount Cook — Queenstown corridor, one of
the most beautiful areas of New Zealand, Lake Tekapo is home to mountain
vistas, a slightly overrated church and some of the world’s clearest
night skies.And there are so many things to do here!
Lake Tekapo is literally one of the best places in the world for stargazing. It’s part of the Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve
which means it is recognised on an international scale for its pristine
stargazing conditions. Either hop in the car, get out of town and find a
safe place to pull over for some stargazing away from artificial light
to enjoy the stars. You can actually join a tour to see it.
You can go to the Church of the Good Shepherd, take pictures in a field of lupins, hike Mt John, relax in hot pools, walk in the Peninsula Walkway, see other lakes nearby and then head to Mount Cook.
How to visit:
If you're looking for that purple flowers near the lake: The lupins at Lake Tekapo are best in late November, while the flowers hit full bloom a little later the further south you go.
I would totally recomment camp here. If you have a self contained campervan you can camp anywhere, but if you have a normal campervan or a tent you can camp only in designated areas (they can be free or you have to ay per person/per night).
