Soča Valley - Slovenia

by - abril 03, 2020

The River Soča, which has a distinct emerald green colour, is considered to be one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe, in Slovenia, for my, the best outdoor country in my continent. The river waters flows across waterfalls, small waterfalls, and cascades as well as through narrow rocky gorges, and along the way it has carved surprising canyons and pools. The river and its tributaries excite the lovers of natural beauty and seekers of adventurous water sports , such as wildwater kayaking, rafting, canyoning, and many other things. A renowned fish lives in the River Soča – the Soča Trout, which attracts fishermen from all over the world. The mountainous landscape above the River Soča was the scene of the largest mountain battle in history during World War I, where 1.7 million soldiers died on where was also known as the Isonzo front. You can go to Kobarid, a town that was also in the WWI frontline. So, yeah, you have a loooot to see here!

I would camp here and then discover it all for lmaybe 4 or 5 days since there is so much to do here. You can check the campsites in this link: https://www.campingsoca.com/en/Campings-Soca-Valley. You should see too the Soča train, tho Bovec, the Tolminka Gorge (lowest point on the valley), Slap Kozjak waterfall, boka waterfall, Krn Lake and Mangart Saddle (providing a beautiful view). In winter you can sky and hike in the snow.

How to visit:
My bet would be like a road trip to Slovenia, and you can see many other wonders like the Lake Bled and even the beautiful city of Ljubljana, so you can just rent a car there and go everywhere. But you have other options that might be cheaper if you're going from Portugal (since the flight Lisbon - Ljubljana is expensive): you can take a trip to Venice, which is only 130 km away from the valley and then rent a car.
If you don't want to go yourself, you can also look into tours:

Happy journeys in Slovenia!
